Plate deposit and premium refund in fleet insurance
Depositing the control plates of a fleet vehicle suspends its cover and may give rise to a premium credit, under the terms of your policy. This guide sets out the contract rules to know, the documents to keep and how to check that the credit appears on the statement.
What a plate deposit is
The holder hands in the control plates of a vehicle that is off the road for a while. In a fleet contract, this deposit is a vehicle change, just like an entry, an exit or a plate change.
The vehicle stays in the fleet: it returns to the road through a return to service after deposit.
What the deposit changes for cover and premium
During the deposit, the vehicle's cover is suspended. A premium credit may follow, under the terms of your policy.
Three contract rules decide it: the minimum deposit duration in days, the maximum deposit duration in months, and the deposit credit basis, meaning the covers on which the credit is calculated. The contract's prorata convention then sets the amount.
Keep the receipt, announce the return
Keep the plate deposit receipt: it dates the deposit. Announce the return to service just like the deposit, with its effective date.

Check the credit on the statement
The credit must appear on the insurer's statement. If it does not, that is a known discrepancy: expected credit missing from the statement.
